Optometric Physician Sentenced

Helen Boerman was sentenced to 3.5 years in federal prison and ordered to pay nearly $7 million in restitution for using her practice, Brentwood Eye Care, to defraud Medicare and other government health care programs. Court documents say Boerman submitted claims seeking reimbursement for dates of service where patients did not receive services and for wound care products that she had not actually purchased or used because she split wound care products intended for single use. Boerman directed Brentwood Eye Care staff to create false records. Watch and read a story from WKRN and read a Department of Justice press release.
