Former Ambulance Service Owner Sentenced
A federal judge sentenced Basil Ubanwa to 12 months of probation and ordered him to pay a $50,000 fine. Ubanwa, who pleaded guilty to one count of health care fraud, also agreed to pay $2.1 million in restitution. The government alleged Ubanwa instructed his employees to falsify data about patients’ mobility. Agents saw at least one patient walk on her own from one of Ubanwa’s ambulances into her home after a dialysis treatment. Read a story from The Associated Press.
