Doctor Sentenced to Three Years

Gavel

Dr. John R. Manning was sentenced to three years in federal prison for his participation in a health care fraud conspiracy that resulted in over $41 million in fraudulent claims. He was also ordered to pay more than $20 million in restitution and forfeiture. As part of a guilty plea, Manning admitted that he worked for multiple “telemedicine” companies and signed doctor orders or prescriptions for durable medical equipment (DME), topical creams, and cancer genetic tests (CGx) based on only a brief conversation with a patient, or often no conversation at all. Manning signed those orders and prescriptions in exchange for illegal kickbacks and bribes. Read a Department of Justice press release.
