Doctor Sentenced for Fraud Scheme

Doctor

Dr. Timothy Sutton was sentenced to more than five years in prison for his role in a health care billing conspiracy scheme that was intended to fraudulently bill Medicare for more than $14.5 million. He was also ordered to pay nearly $6 million in restitution. Court documents say he was employed by two telemedicine companies that provided him with precompleted orders for durable medical equipment (DME), such as braces, and/or cancer genetic testing (CGx) for him to approve and digitally sign. Federal investigators found that Sutton never examined any of the patients he claimed to have examined. Read a story from Cleveland.com and a Department of Justice press release.
