Doctor, Practice Agree to Pay $700,000

Dr. Arun Sehgal and his medical practice, Preventive & Diagnostic Medical Center P.A., have agreed to pay nearly $700,000 to resolve allegations that they violated the False Claims Act by upcoding physician services and billing for services that Sehgal never provided. Sehgal is the former medical director at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home. The allegations also include regularly billing for “impossible days,” which occur when a physician purports to provide such a high volume of services or procedures in one day that there is no way the physician reasonably could have performed them all.
