Michael Nolan and Richard Epstein have been sentenced to federal prison and ordered to pay restitution for their roles in a conspiracy to defraud federal health benefit programs that resulted in the submission of at least $134 million in fraudulent claims and $29 million in payments. According to court documents, their telemarketing company targeted the elderly to generate thousands of medically unnecessary physicians’ orders for durable medical equipment (DME) and cancer genetic testing (CGx). They also created and operated a telemedicine company through which they illegally bribed physicians to sign the orders, regardless of medical necessity. Read a Department of Justice press release.
