The owners of four orthotic brace suppliers and several marketing companies have been charged for allegedly orchestrating a nationwide kickback and bribery scheme to order medically unnecessary orthotic braces for Medicare beneficiaries. The complaint estimates the total loss at approximately $65 million. The complaint alleges that some of those who were charged had operated or controlled marketing call centers to solicit beneficiaries and to entice them to accept orthotic braces regardless of need. Read a Department of Justice press release.  Another press release from the Justice Department details information on additional defendants.
