A federal jury found three individuals associated with dozens of hospice and home health companies guilty for their roles in a $154 million health care fraud scheme. They were the owner, CEO, and medical director of a large health care company that enrolled patients with long-term, incurable diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and dementia, into hospice care at group homes, nursing homes, and housing projects by falsely telling them that they had less than six months to live. They sent chaplains to lie to the patients and discuss last rites and preparation for their imminent death. Read a story from HealthLeaders and a Department of Justice press release.
